Question on Bunkers:

What is the best stance to get out of a greenside bunker? I have been told to use a pitch shot and position the ball in the middle of my stance.
--Linda S. from Bluffton, SC

Hi Linda. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com. I'm excited to get to help you with your game.

I recommend standing quite a bit wider than a pitch shot (usually a pitch would mean your feet are two club heads apart). This gives you a bit better balance in most cases.

The ball should be played forward of the center of your stance. This helps you catch the ball on the upswing with a more shallow angle of attack and with more loft on the face. If you play the ball back or middle you risk catching it on the downswing, hooding the face and pushing the ball down into the sand.

I hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions. Also, you may enjoy all the articles in our Bunkers category as there is a lot of good information there so check that out under the Golf Instruction tab.
