Question on Chipping:

For chipping, should I focus on where I want the ball to land instead of where I want it to roll out to? I obviously want the ball to roll near the hole, but I have a hard time gauging where I want the chip to land to begin rolling out.

Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com.

The ONLY thing that matters in the short game is your landing spot. If you can gauge that and control it, you can control where the ball ends up. Too many people just stare down the pin and that's where they end up flying the ball. The result is obviously too much roll past the pin. The same can be true for coming up short. If you haven't zeroed in on a landing spot, your lack of focus can easily cause you to decelerate and leave the shot short.

You need to read the green first just like you would if you were putting. After that pick the spot where you think it is best for the ball to land so that it will funnel up near the hole. Follow that with a few "feel" practice swings that help you gauge how much power you'll need to get it there. From there go through your good pre-shot routine and you should be all set.

I hope that helps and if you have other questions, just let me know.

Thanks.
