Question on Chipping:

My chips and pitches are erratic. They are sometimes long, sometimes short and even pushed or pulled. What do you recommend?
--Woody W. from Clearwater Beach, FL

Hi Woody. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com.

I'd love to help you get your short game back on track. Since it sounds like you are all over the place (push and pull are two totally different swing paths) our first order of business is to get you some consistency. To control the contact of the ball should be our first priority. Fat and thin shots are difficult to control because you are not properly spinning the ball. Let's focus on that first and then tackle direction later.

I want to first get you hitting down consistently on all your short game shots. I want to make sure you are contacting the ball first and then the ground taking a little bit of a divot. If we can get you hitting down, then the ball will pop back up and you should have a good amount of spin with clean contact.

Try to work on these drills which are all designed to get you hitting down and making crisp contact:

One Foot Only
Towel Drill
Coin Down Drill

The drills can be found here:

Give them a try for a few weeks and then update me on your progress please. Also note that as a Pro Member you could submit your swing for video analysis.

Thanks!
