Question on Chipping:

How can I hit low flighted, high spinning pitches with little to no divot? Higher pitches with medium spin are no problem for me. So I have my basic pitch shot.
--Marc C. from New York, NY

Hi Marc. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com.

Low, high spin shots are created for 2 reasons. Low comes from a de lofted face at impact with a forward leaning shaft. This means that a player that is knocking the ball out low (provided it is a solid hit) and is doing a great job of keeping their hands in front of the clubhead throughout the downswing. In other words, they are moving the club with their pivot as opposed to flipping their hands at the ball.

High spin comes from loft (which you obviously have if it's a wedge), a clean hit, speed and a downward strike. So if you are playing a lofted wedge and are able to strike down on the ball with speed and catch it clean (no grass between the clubface or ball), then you are going to create spin.
