Question on Chipping:

I've been having trouble lately with hitting my intermediate range pitches heavy (25-100 yard). I suspect an early release is the problem. Any tips or drills to create more consistency in this part of my game?

Hi Wyatt. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com. I'm looking forward to helping you with your game.

Fat and thin pitches and chips are common and often due to an early release of the clubhead. Yes, I have many drills to help combat this issue.

I would encourage you first to check where your weight is placed at address and where it is at impact. It is important to start with more weight (60-70%) on your left or front leg at address. It is even more important to make sure that your weight is heavily over your front foot at impact. When you are on your front foot you can hit down into the ball. If you are leaning or falling back, you will bottom out before the ball.

Drills are for our Pro subscribers, but I will give you these for free to try as I think they will really help:

Coin Down Drill:
Coin Down Drill

Towel Drill:
Towel Drill

Both are designed to get you making clean contact with the back of the ball and then taking a nice divot after impact. Give them a try and let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!
