Back Foot In Drill

Description: The Back Foot in Drill helps to make sure players have proper hip movement in their backswings. It is designed to both help a golfer who over turns their hips in the backswing as well as help a golfer who sways their hips off the ball during the takeaway.

Summary:
  1. Set up to the ball as you would naturally. Next, turn your back toe in towards the target about 45 degrees. With your back foot angled in it will be nearly impossible for you to turn your hips too much. It will be also very difficult for you to have any significant amount of lateral sway in the takeaway.
  2. Practice making backswings slowly without a ball at first. As with any drill like this you want to make sure you go slow at first to test your limits. The last thing you want to do is blow out a knee.
  3. Once you have gotten comfortable without a ball and have found a speed that will be injury free for you, start hitting balls. You should feel a lot less hip action and as a result you should achieve a tighter coil while staying more centered over the ball.
