Back to the Target


Description: The Back to the Target Drill is designed to help players that slice because they spin open too quickly at the top of their swing.

Summary:
  1. This drill is all about being aware of where your back and shoulders are facing throughout the swing. The first step is to simply swing to the top of your backswing and pause. Notice how your upper back is facing the target (or it should be) and your chest is facing away from the target.
  2. Next, make a slow motion swing keeping your back at the target until your hands reach about waist high. At this point you will have gotten the club down on an inside plane.
  3. The final step is to now turn slowly until you reach impact. At this point your shoulders and chest should be square to the target line - not open. Do this a 2-3 times slowly so you can feel where your shoulders and back are throughout the swing. Once comfortable with it try adding some speed taking it slow at first.
