Coil T Drill

Description: The Coil T Drill will help you to make sure you are making a complete coil on your backswing. This is important not only for power, but also to help make sure you get the club on plane by using your shoulders to push your arms into position rather than disconnecting your arms from your torso.

Summary:
  1. Look at the seem on your shirt that sits on your shoulder. You will notice it forms the letter "T". Using the seem that runs right through your shoulder as a guide, slowly turn to the top of your swing until you see the seem point to the golf ball. This represents a 90 degree turn which is ideal for any player. Note that some players are highly flexible and can go beyond this without over turning their hips (more than 42 degrees). This is o.k. as long as the hips don't over turn and the arms don't break down.
  2. Do this slowly several times in practice. Try to start hitting balls and see if you can see the "T" out of the corner of your eye. Make sure it is at least getting to the ball or going a bit past.
  3. If you can get the "T" to the ball you can rest assured that you are making a good, full coil behind the ball.
