Toes Up Drill

Description: The Toes Up Drill is a great drill for those that tend to get on their toes in the golf swing. Falling onto your toes can cause many misses, most commonly shanks and blocks. We need to make sure that our weight sits in the arches of our feet at address and remains there throughout the swing.

Summary:
  1. Take your normal set up and address position. Then place a 2x4 under your toes. If you don't have a 2x4, I often use the ball trays at the driving range as well. You can put a golf ball under the ball of each of your feet, but it is a bit less stable than using something flat.
  2. Start making slow practice swings keeping your weight back on your heels throughout the swing. Even though we want the weight to be in our arches, we are making a bit of an over correction at this point to get away from leaning or falling onto our toes. Once you get the feel and are keeping your balance, try hitting some golf balls.
  3. If you have been shanking or pushing/blocking, you should see these errors start to dwindle quickly as you remain more balanced on the center of your feet.
