Towel Drill for Chunking

Description: The Towel Drill for Chunking helps prevent fat shots by teaching you how to move the bottom point of your arc to the golf ball.

Summary:
  1. Start by taking a small golf towel and folding it over twice. Then lay it about 5-6 inches behind your ball and start with a short iron. As you become more proficient with the drill you can move the towel closer to your ball and even try a longer shafted club.
  2. Taking a half swing pick the club up over the towel on the back swing and then swing down missing the towel but hitting the ball. This will help teach you to move the bottom point of the arc forward so you will bottom out at the golf ball.
  3. If you release your wrists too soon you will move or brush the towel. Once you get to the point of missing the towel completely you can try moving it just a bit closer to the ball. From this point forward you should be avoiding chunky shots and catching the ball with clean contact.
