Question on Diagnosing Problems:

How do I fix my slice?
--Tom G. from Atlanta, GA

Hi Tom. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com. I'm looking forward to helping you improve your game.

Slicing the ball is due to a clubhead that is traveling from outside to inside the target line through impact. This causes the ball to start off to the left of the target line and coupled with an open face, it will spin back to the right. Obviously the more severe the swing path error and the more open the face is, the more dramatic the rightward curve will be.

To correct this we need to first make sure that you have a grip that is definitely not in a weak position and hopefully slightly strong. Check out this article here as it will help you establish a solid grip:

The most important thing is that you check where your "Vs" are pointed. Your Vs are formed between your forefinger and thumb of each hand. They should be pointed somewhere between your right ear and your right shoulder.

Next, we need to make sure that you are swinging on an inside out plane coming through impact. I am going to give you 2 drills for free to try out. They are 2 of my favorites for swing plane and using them regularly will help you groove the correct path:Swing Under a String Drill :

Give this all a try and let me know how your progress goes.
Thanks!
