Question on Diagnosing Problems:

I have a habit of looking up too soon causing a bad shot. Do you have any suggestions?
--Derek P. from New Athens, IL

Thanks for the question Derek!

And yes, there is an easy fix to looking up to soon. I should specify that it's actually rare for someone to just look up. What happens is they actually stand or raise up during the downswing changing the posture they established at address.

When you are watching your shot fly, try watching it with your right cheek (for right handed players) facing or parallel to the ground. Try to hold that position as long as you can into your finish. For most players the first time they do this they feel a pretty big stretch up their left side. You will get the sensation you are doing an under handed toss. Note that your right shoulder will also still be pointed at the ground.

If you finish and your shoulders are level with the ground (rather than your right shoulder pointing down) it's a good indication you stood up too soon. If you can keep your right side low and hold it longer it will prevent you from pulling up and out of the shot.

Best of luck and let me know how it goes!
