Question on Diagnosing Problems:

Hey Maria, Whats the difference between starting the downswing with left hip or left lats or even left knee/thigh? And following with right arm or left arm ? No one could answer me believe it or not(not sure why?). Thank you for your time and I truly appreciate your help.
--Julie O. from East Walpole, MA

Hi Julie. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com.

I think it's mostly what a player feels. For instance, some players feel their right shoulder move down plane to start their downswing. Others feel their left shoulder pull out from under their chin.

What is taught most is that the swing moves in the opposite order of the backswing and moves from the ground up, so that would be the hips. You will find the majority of instructors say move the hips first. I myself have always had success moving my left lat or my entire left side (lat and hips) to start down. It's all about finding out what works best for you.

Remember what we feel and what we are doing are often different. You may feel you are moving your left lat first, but on video it may show that your left hip is moving before your left lat.

I hope that helps!
