Hi Mark,
It definitely sounds like you are coming too far inside out. This can cause fat shots (drop kicks) and pushes to the right. Make sure to keep the club in front of your toe line on the backswing. Do not let the club head get behind your body and work on more of a straight back/straight through swing.
