Question on Diagnosing Problems:

I'm slicing the driver. Can you give me some suggestions?
--David W. from Austin, TX

Hi David.

Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com. I'm looking forward to helping you with your game.

As you may or may not know a slice is caused by a swing path that comes outside/in (swings across the target line and to the left) coupled with a club face that is open to the swing path.

There are numerous factors that can cause a slice and many of them may work together to make it happen. In other words it might not be just one thing. Some of the issues could be a weak grip, poor set up, poor pivot, reverse weight shift, poor posture, wrong ball position and a swing plane that comes over the top of the original plane just to name a handful. Without seeing you of course it's difficult to say for sure what you are doing. You may consider upgrading to Pro status and sending your swing in so I can be accurate with my diagnosis. In the meantime, even though drills are reserved for our Pro members I'm going to send a few for you to try. They deal mostly with checking your grip position and getting you on plane and striking the ball from a more inside/out path.

Give these a try and see if you get some immediate improvement. If not, please write back with a description of what's going on exactly with the ball flight and I will try to help.
