Question on Diagnosing Problems:

I have too much leg movement in swing due to bad hip. Should I try weight on left foot to compensate?
--Declan T. from Schenectady, NY

Hi Declan. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com. I'm looking forward to helping you with your game.

It sounds like you are saying that you have a bit of a sway off of the ball on the takeaway due to your bad hip. I am assuming because of your hip injury that to make a normal pivot onto your right side is very difficult. If this is the case and if there is nothing that you can do physically with golf fitness exercises to improve your hip rotation then your idea of planting more weight on your left side throughout the backswing is probably a very good idea.

The one thing I would caution you of is to be careful not to get into a reverse weight shift or a reverse pivot. It's important to properly load the upper body behind the ball on the backswing and get some weight back to your right foot if at all possible. If you hang left with your weight or develop a reverse spine tilt a host of swing errors and ball flight errors will follow.

I hope that helps and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks.
