Question on Diagnosing Problems:

How much longer should my "Big Bertha" be compared to my 7 Iron?
--Melinda N. from Jacksonville, FL

All manufacturers make their clubs just a bit different. The standard loft and length on a Wilson 7 iron may differ just a bit from what Taylor Made considers standard. Graphite is also a tad bit longer than steel shafts. I'm assuming you mean a Big Bertha driver which depending on the model and year it was made could be 43 inches or longer. I'm not sure what brand 7 iron you are using, but your best bet is to go to each manufacturers website and check the lengths and then measure your clubs.

If you are asking how much further you should hit it, then that is relative and depends on the player. The faster a player swings the bigger the difference they will notice between the two. For instance Rory McIlroy may hit his 5 iron 200 yards and his driver 315 yards, so that is a 115 yard difference. The average lady on the other hand may hit their 7 iron 100 yards and their driver 150 so there is only a 50 yard difference.

I hope that helps!
