Question on Diagnosing Problems:

Hi Maria,

I have difficulty understanding where my right elbow should be at the top of my backswing. I often blame it for my fades when my elbow flys out and pulls if I try to hold my elbow close to me. I remember once being told my right arm should be upright like a waiter holding a tray. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Enjoying all you do for us.

Hi Bill. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com. I'm excited to to get to help you with your game.

The right elbow can cause problems if it is too tucked or too loose (flying at the top). Ideally your tricep muscle will be parallel to the ground. That way you know you are high enough, but not too high. Additionally your forearm should be on a approximately 45 degree angle that matches your spine tilt.

This article should help a bit as well.

Should you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Thanks!
