Question on Diagnosing Problems:

Hi Maria,
I just got a new set of Ping i20's (professionally fit) and I'm having a heck of a time adjusting. I'm either hitting shots thin or fat. Its still really early in the season here in Michigan so I hope its just winter rust. Any suggestions to improve contact?

Hi David. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com. I"m looking forward to helping you with your game.

Sometimes there is an adjustment period with new clubs. Just a simple change in the weight, shaft material, kick point, or even head weight can throw you off. It is possible that your old clubs fit the timing of your swing well enough that you were able to hit the ball more solid. I would guess though that there is a swing error there that is just now rearing it's ugly head.

Fat and thin shots can be caused by a lot of issues from release point to weight shift to swing path. I'd like to focus on getting you a good weight shift to your front foot before impact so you can hit down on the ball, catch it clean and make a nice divot after impact.

Drills are for our Pro subscribers, but I'm going to send you these two for free as I think they will really help:

Then I'd like you to take a look at this article that explains impact in detail because I think you will pick up a good pointer here:

Please give this all a try and let me know how it goes.
Thanks
