Question on Diagnosing Problems:

No matter what I do, my drives have a very low trajectory. I use a higher lofted driver, tee the ball high and in the front of my stance but it still comes out low. I assume my hands are coming through way in front. What are some things I can do to help make sure my club face comes through correctly?
--Travis C. from Kent, WA

Hi Travis,

Without seeing your swing on video it's really difficult for me to say for sure. You may consider upgrading to pro status for a few months so you can send in your swing and I can work with you.

There is a law of diminishing returns and if you have the ball too far forward that can cause you to be swinging up on the ball too much and catching it low in the face.

It's also possible it is a swing path issue. Coming too much from the inside and then swinging up too much can cause low shots. Coming too much from the outside and coming down steep can cause you to smother the ball.

If your hands were too far ahead (and that would be rare), you would also be hitting your irons super low and taking an nice long divot after impact.

Make sure you are keeping your head behind the ball because if you are moving that in front of the ball you could possibly lag too much and smother it.
