Question on Diagnosing Problems:

What do you think of Moe Norman's "same plane" technique?
--Earl H. from High Point, NC

Hi Earl. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com.

I'm assuming you mean Moe Norman? I have quoted him in a few articles on the site because he was definitely an amazing ball striker and player in general.

Single plane is Moe Norman and Ben Hogan and many other great player's method of swinging. Some however swing on 2 planes and a lot of instructors promote one or the other, while other instructors promote a plane that is determined by your body type, etc.

I am an advocate of as little wasted movement as possible. The closer you can get to one plane the better, however very few swing up and down on a perfect line without any variance. A big loop however is much harder to control and leads to a lot of inconsistency especially if a player is not out practicing every day.
