Question on Diagnosing Problems:

Why do I push my shots to the right of target when my set up is square? Thanks for your help.
--John S.

Hi John. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com. I'm excited to get to help you with your game.

A push comes from a club path that is too far inside/out in relation to your target line. When you swing on this path the ball will start to the right of your intended target and either stay straight if the club face is square to the line that you are swinging on or curve back to the left and hook if your face is square to your target line. If the clubface is open in relation to the line you are swinging on you will actually get a push/slice shot.

Without seeing you it is hard to say exactly what is causing you to push. It's most likely a swing path issue, but check your grip to make sure it isn't too weak and make sure that not only your feet are square, but that your shoulders are too and that you aren't leaning excessively back at impact.

I hope this helps and if you have any other questions after trying this, please let me know as I can send some drills your way.

Thanks.
