Question on Diagnosing Problems:

I usually top the ball or it fades to the right. How can I correct this?
--Joe P. from Houston, TX

Hi Joe. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com.

It sounds like you may be having a problem with a proper weight shift. When you hang back or fall back through the swing you will not only catch the ball on the up swing, but you will also be forced to swing out to the right. Note that I'm assuming you are right handed as you have not finished your profile.

This hanging back and not properly finishing also makes it nearly impossible for most to square up and release the clubface before impact.

I suggest you work on the Front Foot Only Drill here:
www.mygolfinstructor.com/instruction/diagnosing-problems/drills/

and the Chase the Ball Drill found here:
www.mygolfinstructor.com/instruction/diagnosing-problems/drills/

Give these two drills a try for a few weeks and let me know if it doesn't improve. Also note that as a Pro Student you could just send your swing in for analysis.

Thanks and good luck!
