Question on Diagnosing Problems:

Having trouble hitting my woods solidly off the ground. I am developing a good inside to out swing (mini draw) with my hybrids (5 thru 7) and driver but I am hitting slightly behind the ball with my woods (3,5,7). Would focusing my eyes in front of the ball help? Other suggestions? I want to keep the same swing angle with all my clubs. Thanks!
--John N. from Surprise, AZ

Hi John,

The issue could be that you are getting too inside/out. This can make you hit the ground before the ball from the inside. What we call a drop kick. You could be getting away with it with your driver because it's on the tee so you have some room for error. With your longer clubs that you hit off the ground like fairway woods, they are likely to bottom out too soon. So you may be over cooking it with the inside/out path.

If that's not the case, weight shift is the likely culprit so make sure your weight has gotten to your front foot before impact. It's awfully hard to hit behind the ball if you have your weight forward.
