Question on Diagnosing Problems:

With your years of experience teaching, what are the most common things your students do wrong?

I will make a list of the most common and in no particular order:
1) Don't practice enough
2) Set their goals and expectations too high
3) Are too results oriented when trying to learn a new technique
4) Have a poor pre-shot routine or have none at all
5) Spend more time practicing their full shots than putting and chipping
6) Fear change
7) Have poor pre-swing fundamentals (grip, posture, ball position, alignment)
8) Try to fix too many things at once
9) Do not have a concrete game plan and goal going into a round
10) Do not properly warm up before a round

Notice, none of these have to do with technique. It's amazing how poor routines, a weak mental game, poor attitude and poor pre-swing fundamentals and bad practice habits can sabotage a golf game. The good news...there is ample room for improvement other than pure skill and athletic talent!
