Question on Driving:

I used to hit driver pretty well, but now I have a consistent snap hook that goes about 100 yards and takes a dive. I rarely hit a good shot with a driver. I hit my short irons well. I'm getting some age on me and have back trouble. Do I need to change my swing for my age and stiffness in my back?
--Rod F. from Council Hill, OK

Hi Rod. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com.

Without seeing your swing I can't say for sure what you are doing wrong or that you would need to change anything do to age or a stiff body. Keep in mind that you could send your swing in for a swing analysis when needed.

A true snap hook comes from a fairly severe inside/out swing path coupled with a closed club face. If your ball is starting out pretty straight at first it's probably more of an issue with the club face. If you were super inside/out the ball would actually start to the right of your target line. If it's starting straight then your path is probably o.k., but it could be a combination of the two.

I would check to make sure that your grip is not too strong and that you aren't rolling your arms over too quickly through impact. If you check out this page here:

there are several drills for swing plane and many other problems you may be having.

I hope this helps and if you have any more specific questions please let me know.
