Question on Driving:

Hi Maria! I would like you to give me some advice to hit longer drives. Thanks
--Federico S. from Alexandria, VA

Hi Frederico. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com. I'm looking forward to working with you.

To get distance on our drives we need:
1) Lots of Speed
2) Good Mechanics & Sequence
3) Center Strikes
4) Ideal Launch Angle & Spin Rate

For launch angles and spin rates, the only way to get that information is to get on a launch monitor. The machine doesn't lie and will tell you everything you need to know about the driver you are using and whether or not it is the best one for your swing. Your ball needs to be launching at the correct angle, coming down at the correct angle and spinning the right amount for you to maximize distance.

The other 3 factors are more within my realm of expertise. If we can improve your mechanics, get you to hit the ball in the center of the face and get you to increase your swing speed (with physical training, a better sequence and a well fit driver) then you are sure to hit the ball quite a bit farther than you ever have.

Let's start with positioning for a driver. If you aren't set up properly to hit them long, you will sacrifice distance. Check out this article here:

Work through this and check your positions. If you are doing all of this correctly and still losing distance then we can move on to some swing and exercise drills. Let me know when you are ready.
Thanks!
