Question on Driving:

Hi Maria
I read your comments each day. They're a great help. At 60 and 4 yrs into playing I find that my drives and fairway shots are parabolic in path but lower handicappers hit shots that rise and then fall more in the shape of a door wedge. They get further and I struggle even though my short game's okay. How do I get this shot shape? I have 90mph club head speed for a driver though I'm not all that strong, and I try to keep an in to out full swing path. Thanks, Andy
--Andy B. from Bell, CA

Hi Andy. Thanks for writing I'm excited to get to help you with your game.

By what you are describing it sounds like you are looking for a more boring trajectory where the ball starts out low and then climbs higher.

Back 15 years ago or more that boring or piercing trajectory was what all good players desired. The "Pro" trajectory one could say. They soon found that the ball would start out low, balloon up and have a lot of backspin essentially plugging with little roll. More modern day drivers and swings now are designed to create more of an arcing trajectory now so that the ball will land and still kick some. It sounds like this is what you are getting so I'm not sure why you would want to change that. The best thing for you to do is go get on a launch monitor and have a professional fitter tell you if your launch angles and spin rates are ideal or not. If not, changing around the head and shaft might be the answer.

I hope that helps and let me know if you have any other questions.
