Question on Driving:

My question has to do with figuring out why my drives don't go the required distance for me to ever reach greens in regulation. As a 5'8" athletic, flexible female golfer, my drives go straight down the middle but only 120 - 150 yards. My fairway shot using my 3 wood however can go 140- 160 yards! That doesn't make sense to me.

Thoughts?
--Julie P. from Trabuco Canyon, CA

Distance is directly related to club head speed. Have you ever had your speed measured?

Your ball will go 2 1/2 yards for every MPH you swing and that's of course also dependent on hitting the sweet spot and not the toe or the heel which would be dependent on how good your technique is.

If you are hitting 160 yards, you are swinging at 64 MPH. That's actually normal for ladies. The average is 65. They are often 60-70 with their club head speed. On the LPGA tour however it's 94 which is why they hit it so much further.

I would get your clubhead speed clocked so you know what it is and what your max distance should be.
