Question on Equipment:

I am about to buy new irons. I have Callaway "X" now and I am considering forged Irons. My handicap index is 10, swing speed about 90. How do I decide if I should but forged clubs or cast cavity backs.?
--Patrick F. from Chesterfield, VA

Hi Patrick. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com. I'm excited to get to help you with your game.

That is a great question and one of personal preference really. A lot of better players enjoy the feedback that a blade may give them. This is because with a blade you can feel off center hits whereas with a cavity back you don't get as much feel. The huge cavity provides a larger sweet spot and more room for error so they are a bit more forgiving. If you want the challenge and feel most would say go for a blade. If you want forgiveness go for the cavity.

As far as forged vs. cast again it's a matter of preference. There really is no difference in performance and scientific research has shown there isn't really a difference in feel either.

I hope that helps and let me know if you have any other questions.
