Question on Equipment:

What is the difference between range balls and normal balls? Tony From Algoma, WI
--Tony S. from New Franken, WI

Hi Tony. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com.

Well first of all as you probably know range balls take a good beating. If you are talking about used range balls, they have probably been hit thousands of time, been run over by the cart, lost some dimples, sat soaking in water and maybe even have gotten out of round. I never base my results or my students results too heavily on range balls unless the result is consistent from swing to swing. You can always get a bad ball that goes short and zigzags like a snake in the air.

If you are talking about a new range ball versus a new regular ball I believe it depends on the ball. Testing has shown that some range balls out perform others. I saw in a blog once where Pro V 1 range balls tested almost identical to regular Pro V 1, but some other balls lost a considerable amount of spin and distance compared to the same brand's regular ball line.

I hope that helps and let me know if you have any other questions.
