Question on Getting Started:

What age should children begin taking lessons?

Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com.

That's a very, very good question! We have all heard the stories of Tiger Wood's dad getting him started at the age of 2. Andre Agassi's father used to tape the tennis racquet to his hand when he was too young to hold onto it. Personally, I base it on the individual child. If the child is school age and used to sitting still and listening to the teacher for long periods of time then they are probably ready. I have however had 3 and 4 year old's that were really into it and had great attention spans.

On the flip side I often I tell my own students when they ask about their children that they would be wasting money with me as they can teach their child some of the very basics that I would be teaching them anyway. Other than starting with a good set up, things like shift your weight, don't lift up your feet, don't let go of the club, etc. are obvious basics that they need to learn and really anyone can tell them that.

I can't generalize it. You just have to know when your child is ready.

Thanks for the question and let me know if you have any others.
