Question on Getting Started:

I have been playing golf now for little over a year, and have always played from the blue tees. My score is in the high 90's. Is this a good score for a beginner, or should I really be playing from the white tees?
--Jim M. from Kingstree, SC

Hi Jim. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com. I'm excited to get to help you with your game.

I think 90s is very good after one year. You will find a lot of good athletes breaking 100 within the first year, but it takes a lot of golfers 3 years or so to get there.

Whatever tee you play is up to you as long as you keep up a good pace. If you are getting into a lot of trouble from the blues and holding up play behind you, both you and the people in the groups after you will be more at peace if you move up.

If you are also concerned with shooting a certain target score and are going to get seriously down on yourself if you score too high, then you may want to move up for that reason as well.

If you keep up a good pace and shooting in the 90s doesn't bother you then I'd say you are good where you are.

I hope that helps and let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks!
