Push Ups

Description: A Push Up is an ancient exercise used in calisthenics and for building muscle tone mainly to the chest, arm and shoulder muscles, but it also helps strengthen the core. Push ups are a strengthening exercise that can benefit your golf swing by helping you to support the club at the top of the swing, increase your arm speed through the ball (especially the straightening of your rear arm at impact) and increase your core rotation speed.

Summary:
  1. To start lay yourself in a prone position on the floor with your chest resting on the ground. This is with your body perfectly straight, your arms straight and your hands and toes supporting you on the floor. Put your palms flat on the floor and keep your feet close together. Your hands should be about shoulder width apart.
  2. Straighten your arms and push yourself up into the plank position so that you are on the balls of your feet or your toes. Be sure to keep your body in a straight line from head to toe.
  3. Slowly lower yourself as low as you can go. The stronger you get, the lower you will be able to go. Go down with a count of 3, keeping yourself in a straight plank position.
  4. Next, explode up to the count of 1. Repeat this with 8-10 repetitions keeping a good tempo. Perform 3 sets and over time gradually increase your reps. Note: The closer your hands are together the more you will be using your tricep muscles. The wider your hands, the more you will use the muscles of your chest. This way you can vary the exercise in your work outs to target the muscles you need to strengthen the most.
