Question on Golf Fitness:

Do beginners need to worry about golf fitness or just develop the swing first?

Hi James. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com. I'm looking forward to helping you with your game.

The first thing I believe a beginner needs to do is learn what they are trying to do at impact and how impact alignments affect the trajectory and spin on the ball. If you don't know where you are going to begin with, you won't know how to get there. Once this basic concept is understood, then beginners need to work on not only building a sound swing and putting stroke, but they also need to learn how to play the game.

Playing golf isn't just about having good swing technique. It's about learning all the various shots a golfer uses during a game of golf along with learning about a solid pre shot routine, course strategy, mental game and of course rules and etiquette. Once a player has the basics in these areas down, they should be able to get around the course and without too much frustration or embarrassment. After that, golf fitness is a must to improve their technique and protect their longevity in the game.

I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions and be sure to check out our Fitness category on the site to help you get "golf fit."
