Question on Mental Game:

I have just started back to playing golf after a 13 yr. layoff. Prior to quitting I was a 6 handicap. I don't have any consistency yet. One thing I have noticed, I am not able to take my driving range swing to the golf course. I hit the ball great on the driving range, but have a few more struggles once I start playing.

How can I transfer my range swing to the course?

Hi Randall. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com. I'm excited to get the chance to help you with your game.

The most important thing for you to do is to develop a consistent pre-shot routine and practice it on the range. A routine might consist of a couple of practice swings, then stepping back and lining the ball up down the target line. At this point you will pick a target spot to aim towards and then approach the ball. Next, with a waggle or two and a couple looks to the target you are ready to pull the trigger.

The idea is to make your practice as realistic as possible and make it mimic your on course experience.

For this reason be sure to "play golf" on the driving range by imagining a hole and going through the various shots from driver to putter.

I hope this helps and if you have any other questions please let me know.

Thanks.
