Question on Pitching:

Can you help with accuracy on pitch shot under 100yrds?
--Manindra G. from Bennington, VT

Hi Manindra. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com. I'm looking forward to helping you improve your game.

When it comes to accuracy of pitch shots, this area of the game is definitely a challenge for a lot of golfers. While most can hit a pitch shot up into the air, controlling the distance, height and spin is a different story altogether.

To learn how to control your trajectory I suggest reading this article here:

Your Finish Affects Your Trajectory:

To work on distance control with your pitches check out this article:

Once you learn to control the distance and trajectory a bit better the next step of course is to make sure that you are making nice crisp contact and pinching the ball to get a good amount of spin. To achieve this you have to hit down with a descending blow and catch the ball clean with out any grass or dirt getting between the clubface and the ball. You also need to have good technique where your hands are leading the clubhead into impact. To assist with this make sure that you are setting up with your weight on your front foot and staying over that foot so that you can hit down.

If you are having any specific issues with hitting fat, hitting thin or shanking, etc., please feel free to write back with the details as I have over 200 drills here on the site that can assist with any part of your game.

Thanks!
