Indoor Drill - Coil Cranker Drill

Description: This power drill will help you maximize your coil on your backswing to increase club head speed.

Summary:
  1. For this drill I recommend a physio ball (large exercise ball), but an ottoman or a chair (laying on its side) will do as well.
  2. Take your set up with the ball between your legs. Make sure to apply a good squeeze with your knees by keeping your weight on the inside of your feet.
  3. Start without a club and cross your arms across your chest. Make slow practice swings and see how far you can coil your shoulders back while maintaining the squeeze on the ball. Remember this is a drill for the backswing so you don't have to try to swing forward through the shot.
  4. Next, if you have room, try doing the drill with a club. If you are maintaining a good squeeze on the ball, you will probably feel a big stretch and muscles you didn't know you should use on the backswing!
  5. The more you do this drill and the bigger the difference you can establish between your hips and shoulders on the backswing, the more coil you will create. The greater your coil, the faster you will unwind into the ball generating a ton of speed!
