Indoor Drill - Hanger Release Drill


Description: The Hanger Release Drill is the perfect drill for testing to see if you have the proper release of your hands and arms through impact.

Summary:
  1. For this drill grab a regular size plastic clothes hanger.
  2. Start by reaching inside the hanger on the opposite end of the hook and taking your grip so that the hook is between your forearms. Let the hook rest against the inside of the forearm on your lead arm (left arm for right handed players).
  3. Next, make practice swings and as you come through impact, the top of the hanger should remain against the inside of your left arm. If if comes off of your lead arm, especially if it hits your rear arm, then you are flipping or cupping your wrists through impact. This results in a scoop which causes a loss of distance and often chunked and topped shots. The proper motion is to keep your wrists flat and roll them with your forearms through impact rather than flipping them.
  4. Mastering the correct release through impact will increase both distance and accuracy as you will learn to properly compress the ball with a square club face.
