Indoor Drill - Hip Bump Drill

Description: The Hip Bump Drill teaches you how to properly use your hips in the downswing. If you have problems starting down too early with your upper body or arms, this drill will get you activating your lower body first.

Summary:
  1. For this drill you will need a large exercise ball (physio ball) or a beach ball.
  2. Simply set up with the ball between your front hip and a wall. With your arms crossed across your chest and no club, practice by making your shoulder turn on the backswing and then pressing the ball against the wall with your front hip. This will not only give you the feel of using your lower body first in the downswing, but it will also help you shift your weight to your front foot in time.
  3. After you get the hang of it without a club, try using a club if you have room to make a backswing. Practice going from address back to impact. With enough practice pushing into the ball, you will be activating your lower body and increasing power in your downswing.
