Indoor Drill - Posture Improvement Drill

Description: This is an excellent drill that you can do indoors to make sure you are getting into a posture position that will lead to balance, power and flexibility.

Summary:
  1. Your posture sets up the shape of the rest of your swing. If you start by slouching and hunching over at the waist your turn will be limited, causing a loss of distance and your ability to get the club on a good plane and hit accurate shots will be compromised as well.
  2. For this drill you will need a full length mirror. Stand with the mirror at your non target side. Next take a club and put the heel of the club on your tail bone and the grip end on the back of your head. Make sure that both ends of the club are flush against your body. Try to not get a hand or fist in the way. The club should be touching your back on both ends.
  3. Now the tricky part, especially if you lack flexibility. Try bending forward from the hips keeping both ends of the club flush against your back. Take a peek back in the mirror and see if in fact the club is staying connected. If you try to slump from the waist or round your shoulders forward, the club will disconnect.
  4. This is a drill I'd like you to try every day possible for 5 minutes. After time and practice you will develop a nice straight spine, be bent correctly from the hips and learn to keep your shoulders back and chest out. The result will be a greater turn for power and a more on plane swing for accuracy.
