Club Behind Back Drill

Description: The Club Behind Back Drill is a great drill to ensure you are setting up with the correct posture and keeping your spine as straight as possible.

Summary:
  1. Rounding your shoulders and slouching with your upper back will limit the amount of turn you have and decrease coil. This will result of course in a loss of power. Also, it will make it difficult to keep the golf club on plane.
  2. Start by taking the heel of the club and holding it with one hand flat against your lower spine (right at the top of your rear end). Next, hold the grip of the club against the back of your head.
  3. Keep your legs straight, bend from the hips lowering your chest towards the ground and try to keep both ends of the club connected to your spine. After you have achieved this simply add a small amount of knee flex and let your arms hang down relaxed from each shoulder. You should now have a nice straight spine at address.
  4. Note: If it is difficult for you to keep both ends of the club connected to your spine, you need to perform exercises to bring your shoulder blades back or work with a physical therapist to see if changes can be made. Try some back rows, flys and chest stretches for a few months and see if your posture improves.
