Neutral Grip Test Drill

Description: The Neutral Grip Test Drill is a simple drill you can do in just a few seconds with a friend to make sure that your grip is not too strong or too weak.

Summary:
  1. If your grip is too strong or too weak you will struggle to get the clubface squarely back to the ball.
  2. Start by taking what you believe to be a super strong grip. Have a friend grab onto the clubhead while you fully extend your arms out at about chest high. Next, lean back and notice how the clubface will close down.
  3. This time, take what you believe to be an excessively weak grip. Again, extend your arms straight out at about chest high. As your friend grabs onto the head of the club lean backwards away from him or her with your upper body. Notice how the clubface opens dramatically.
  4. Lastly, try to establish a neutral grip and try the same test. If your grip is neutral, the clubface should remain square. Keep in mind, a strong or weak grip is often a compensation to something else that is off in your swing.
