Tee Drill for Grip

Description: The Tee Drill teaches you how to maintain a constant pressure on the grip with your lead hand (left hand for right handed players). This helps prevent changes in clubface position and early acceleration.

Summary:
  1. When you let go of the club at the top of the swing with your lead hand, you can lose control of the clubface. As you are forced to re-grip the club on the way down the clubface can change positions and you will typically put acceleration into the swing too early forcing a deceleration through impact.
  2. Take a golf tee and place it under the heel pad of your lead hand (left hand for right handed players). You should be able to hold the tee between the heel pad of your palm and the grip.
  3. As you swing to the top and down through the ball maintain the squeeze between the last 3 fingers of your lead hand and your heel pad. This will keep the tee in place. If you can do this you can be assured that the clubface won't change positions in your hand.
  4. If the tee drops, you know you are letting go of the grip at the top of the swing. If this is a big problem for you it could by lack of grip strength. Try strengthening your grip by using squeezy balls and doing wrist curls with weights.
