Question on Pre-Swing Fundamentals:

Could you explain your routine and thought process when you step into a tee box? Most good players seem to have a specific routine. Just curious what is included in that before hitting a tee shot. Thanks.

I will assume you meant when I'm stepping onto a tee box or approaching any other shot as my routine is the same for everything. After I have taken my two practice swings and decided what my target (landing spot, not the pin) is and chosen the club I need, I go through the following steps: 1) I stand behind the ball looking down my target line visualizing the flight of the ball to the hole. 2) I pick a spot just a few inches in front of the ball that is in line with my target line. 3) I walk into the ball to address it with only my right hand on the club and point my right foot at the ball as I set the clubface down on the ground aiming at the intermediate spot. 4) I put my left hand on the club, secure the grip, put my feet together and then widen them the appropriate width. 5) I then do a few waggles to stay loose with at least two looks to the target and a deep breath. Now I'm ready to pull the trigger. This sounds like a lot, but once you practice your routine enough and get it grooved, it happens quickly and it's like brushing your teeth. You don't have to think about it. It just happens. Everyone has their own little routine, but I think you find mine very similar to many professional worldwide.
