Question on Pre-Swing Fundamentals:

I've heard that the interlock grip is bad for your hands. Is that true?

Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com.

It can be bad for some golfers, but not affect others. Blisters are a common side effect of the interlock grip more than with the baseball or overlap grip. There can be a lot of friction and pressure where the pinky finger and and index finger interlock each other. I found that to be a huge problem when I used to interlock especially on hot humid days when my hands were perspiring and swelling. Often times you will see golfers who interlock with tape on their fingers to prevent blisters.

The interlock also puts a lot of pressure on your joints, especially the pinky finger of your bottom hand. If you are getting blisters or cramps check first to make sure that your hands are positioned correctly. If they are, then it may be a good idea to switch to the overlap.

Thanks for the question and let me know if you have any others.
