Question on Pre-Swing Fundamentals:

Do you prefer golfers to use an interlocking or overlapping grip?

I prefer an overlapping grip in 95% of cases. You learn as you gain experience and over time I have actually found myself and other top teachers I know preferring a baseball or 10 fingered grip over the interlock as well.

Overlapping connects the hands so they work as a unit, but makes it easier to hold the grip in your fingers and not palm it which results in stiff wrists. The further you hold the club from your wrist joints, the more supple your wrists will be. The overlap grip facilitates a softer feel.

For small hands, the interlock may feel more secure though. This is o.k. by me as long as they don't jam the hands together (i.e. they don't have to interlock all the way) again causing the grip to lay in the palm instead of the fingers. Interlocking too deeply can also cause finger and joint pain as well as wear and tear.
