Yardstick Drill
Description: The Yardstick Drill helps you develop a system to gauge your putting stroke length for different distances of putts.
Summary:
- Start at the center of a yardstick and put a white piece of tape around it. Then two inches to the right and two inches to the left put a yellow piece of tape. Continue this every two inches (or one if you choose) with different color tape until the end of the stick on both sides.
- Walk off putts at 3 feet, 6 feet, 9 feet and so on to find out how long you have to make your putting stroke to get the ball to roll that determined distance.
- As you practice with the yardstick enough you will teach yourself the proper putting stroke for varying distances. For instance, for a 6 foot put, you might say to yourself, "o.k. that's blue to blue." Blue may be 4 inches back and 4 inches through or whatever length you marked it to be.
- Practice the Yardstick Drill so that on the course you will be able to visualize the colors and know how long your stroke must be for different length putts.
