Question on Putting:

How can I avoid three putting?
--Steve B. from Sycamore, IL

Hi Steve. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com. I'm looking forward to helping you improve your scores.

To avoid 3 putting you need to be able to:

1) Hit your approach shots and chips/pitches in close to the pin
2) Get a good read on the putt
3) Be able to negotiate the speed by reading it correctly and controlling both the tempo and length of your stroke
4) Strike the ball consistently in the center of the face
5) Make a consistent path

I have over 30 putting drills here on the site and if we know what you need to work on be it speed control, reading the green, path, etc. I can get you started on a couple of free drills.

In the meantime I highly recommend you start tracking your stats in our Game Tracker which I believe is the best one online. If you track stats such as your approach club, made putt distance, chips and first putt distance we can look at your cards and see very quickly why your putts are so high.

I hope that helps and just let me know what you think you need to work on first.
Thanks.
