Question on Putting:

I cannot seem to feel the putter head going straight back and straight forward?
--Bob W. from Lake Worth, FL

Hi Bob. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com.

There are two methods to putting. Putting on a straight line and putting on an arc. In our video which can be purchased here on the site Putting Perfection, veteran tour player Jay Delsing and I describe both. We also state that there is no "one way" to putt.
want to put on a straight path rather than on an arc? Let me know and I can give you some drills that can assist in making a better path and increasing feel.

Also, I would first recommend that you test your putter and make sure that it is conducive to a straight line stroke. One quick test you can do is to place two fingers under the shaft about 6" up from the head and let the putter dangle on your fingers. If the face stays level (parallel to the ground) or if the toe hangs down just a bit then you can make an attempt at a straight path. If however the toe hangs down halfway or more, the putter head is going to want to swing open and close which is better for an arc stroke. Also a more upright shaft will assist in a straight path.

Check these things out and get back to me and we'll see what we can do.

Thanks!
